In this chapter, Lassie decides to fight Waldo for Holly's hand, but with the lovely shepherdess easily getting the better of him in a training fight, realizes that it is going to take more than his decisiveness to realize that strategy. Meanwhile, Myrtle gets in financial trouble with the merciless Lord Hammerdick, and Lassie's clever plan to pay off her taxes with some chopped firewood brings only temporary relief.
